Montreal is home to Canada’s largest and most established tango community, and Radiotango is, without a doubt, the city's tango ensemble most deeply rooted in traditional tango. Montreal dancers—both amateurs and professionals—love Radiotango for its truly danceable music and contagious energy.

Radiotango sets itself apart by showcasing the poetry of tango, brought to life by Damian Nisenson (originally from Argentina) a true Montrealer at heart.

Always popular, we are thrilled to bring back RadioTango to this year’s Bailongo.

The Festival DJs

Xiao Yang

Xiao Yang (“Tango Pig”) is an experienced dancer Dj and Tango Event organiser. He was first inspired to dj by Horacio Godoy and the culture of La Viruta in Buenos Aires. Dividing his time now between North America and Asia, he has DJed at milongas across China, Canada, and Korea, including Onada in Seoul.

With a keen sense of the energy of the dance floor, Xiao is especially passionate about the Golden Age orchestras, but occasionally incorporates more varied tandas, always creating a balanced, dynamic, and distinctive milonga atmosphere.

Xiao has co-organised major tango events such as the Xi’An Tango Festival and the South China Argentine Tango Competition.

Djing more and more in Montreal, we are thrilled he will be joining the Bailongo team and will dj our welcome milonga on Wednesday, May 13th.

Alexis Boileau

In 2013, Alexis discovered tango, the same year he completed his doctorate in classical piano. After a few years of dancing in Montreal, he decided to create his own solo piano arrangements of his favorite tangos to perform at various milongas. Realizing that it isn’t always easy to find suitable pianos, he decided to trade his piano for a computer and became a tango DJ.

For the past few years, he has been performing at the milonga Le Bisou, where he is the resident DJ, and at Studio Tango. He is appreciated for his energetic style and his ability to adapt to the mood of the moment. He has also participated in events such as Borealis Encuentro, Sonemos Marathon, Milonga Arrabalera, and Milonga La Capital, among others. We are delighted to welcome him back as a DJ at Bailongo Montréal this year.

Alexis will be our DJ at the milonga on Thursday, May 14th

Rebecca Shulman

Rebecca Shulman is a true North American tango icon! She began dancing at a very young age and quickly became one of New York’s leading references for Argentine tango.

Rebecca hosted and DJ’d Dance Manhattan’s popular Monday night milonga for over 20 years, and continues to DJs occasionally for special events.

We are thrilled to welcome Rebecca to this year’s Bailongo. In addition to teaching classes with Tomas, she will DJ our Friday afternoon milonga.

Don’t miss her performance with Tomas on Friday night!

Gabriel Gaumont

Originally from Montreal, now based in Washington DC, Gabriel has taught, performed, and DJed throughout North America for over fifteen years.

When he Dj's, Gabriel enjoys building different kinds of energy throughout his sets, always staying attuned to the dancers and their vibe, and taking cues from the dance floor to sense when and how to raise or lower the tide, offering a rich range of emotions and a flow of energy that dancers can easily navigate.

Gabriel is meticulous in his selection of tandas and cortinas, all thoughtfully chosen to expand the dancer's experience and inspire creativity and flow. He tastefully incorporates music from all eras of tango, from the 1920s through the golden age and beyond, inviting you to enjoy the journey!

Gabriel taught and dj'd for many years in Montreal before moving to the U.S. He returns often to DJ, and we are thrilled to welcome him to this year’s Bailongo!

Gabriel will DJ at our Friday night milonga, before and after the RADIOTANGO orchestra.

Jay Abling

Jay has DJ’d at many major festivals and cities all over North America since 2002. His DJ style is characterized by his ability to move the rhythmical feet and sway the melodic hearts of every dancer in the room. His choice tandas carefully strike the right balance between familiar classic tangos and pleasantly surprising ones.

Jay has taught tango for over 30 years .
During the pandemic, Jay created and ran an online training program about tango music & musicality. His vivid animated visuals have helped many a dancer ‘‘see’’ the music. We are thrilled that Jay will give a lecture on Monday, May 18th highlighting some of his music animations.

Jay has DJ’d several times at Bailongo, we are happy to welcome him back for our 11th edition!

Jay will DJ at our Saturday Gala Milonga.

Pablo Inza

Pablo Inza is one of our maestros who needs no introduction; he is also a very popular tango DJ.

For nine years, he was the resident DJ at the legendary Practica X club in Buenos Aires. Constantly on tour to teach and perform, he now only spins on special occasions.

Pablo is a DJ who fine-tunes the sound to suit the dancers, creating different atmospheres and contrasts. A great music lover himself, he wants dancers to have a good time on the dance floor, aspiring to inspire them as a “musician” by always being ready to adapt his musical choices to the needs of the dance floor.

Pablo favors classics, but he also dares, from time to time, to surprise the dancers by playing a few songs that most people are hearing for the first time. Even the cortinas are important to Pablo, as they help set the mood on the dancefloor .

Pablo has DJed several times at previous Bailongo events, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back! Hewill DJ at our Sunday night gala at Collège Brébeuf.

Avik Basu

A much sought-after DJ on the North American Tango Festival circuit, Avik is influenced primarily by the music and atmosphere of the milongas in Buenos Aires, and can seamlessly weave an evening of music that does justice to the tremendous range of emotions that tango can express. His wish is that the music of the milonga will have special meaning for everyone and that the dancers will float home with the tunes still playing in their heads.

Some of Avik’s most notable tango adventures include two month-long immersions in Buenos Aires, DJing Monday night at Salon Canning in BA, teaching tango to a Bollywood actress in Mumbai, India, and touring the U.S. with tango band Trio Folias.

No stranger to Montreal, Avik was a featured DJ at several of our past Bailongos, including last year’s edition. We are thrilled that he’ll be back in 2026!

Avik will DJ at our Monday Closing Milonga
